When you have to pay
The payment deadlines for development contributions depend on the type of consent:
- For subdivision consent: payment must be made before the council issues the section 224(c) certificate
- For land use consent: payment must be made before the commencement of the consent under s116 of the Resource Management Act 1991
- For building consent: payment must be made before the council issues the code compliance certificate
- For certificate of acceptance: payment must be made before the council issues the certificate of acceptance
- For service connection: payment must be made before the service connection is installed.
We will notify you about the amount you need to pay, payment due dates and how to pay when we issue your consent.
Consent, certification or connection will only proceed after you have paid your development contribution.
Under the Local Government Act 2002 if the required development contributions aren’t paid, the council can withhold the relevant Consent or Certificate, and register the outstanding Development Contribution as a charge on the subject land under the Statutory Charges Registration Act 1928.
