Development Contributions

Whanganui is growing and it’s estimated that around 1160 new residential units will be built in our district over the next 10 years.

The council expects developers to make a fair contribution towards the cost of the infrastructure required to support this growth. This will help pay for new roads, pathways, pipes and parks.

We want to keep rates as low as possible, so contributions (fees payable to the council) from developers are required to help meet these costs.

Our Development Contributions Policy was adopted in July 2024.
