Parking meter guides and parking zones
The council operates ParkEasy MetroLite Touch parking meters that operate on a pay-by-plate parking system.
The meters feature three payment methods – coins, tap-and-go (credit/debit card) and a QR code for smartphone use that connects to the ParkEasy payment portal.
You can also download the ParkMate app to pay for or top up your parking. Find out more about how to use the ParkMate app here.
Once a payment has been made, you are able to move your vehicle anywhere on the same street as you made the payment until your purchased time runs out. For example, if you pay for one hour on Victoria Avenue you may move anywhere on Victoria Avenue until that hour runs out. You can also pay for, or top up your parking, at any meter on the same street as you parked originally.

Parking zones
Parking zones have been introduced in the CBD to make moving between streets easier – zone one (red) is Victoria Avenue and zone two (yellow) refers to all other areas (please see map below).
A payment in a zone will allow movement anywhere within that zone. For example, if you pay for two hours on Ridgway Street and move to Watt Street during that time, the time remaining will follow the vehicle (meters will have signage stating which zone it is).
However, if a payment is made in zone two and the vehicle is moved to zone one then a new payment will be required.
Parking meter locations
As part of updates to the council's Parking Bylaw and Controls, 14 new parking meters will be installed in CBD side streets – please see the map below.
The blue icons are existing meter locations – the purple icons indicate locations of the new meters that are scheduled to come into service on Monday, 5 August 2024.
