Whanganui has several parks and reserves that are ideal locations for events like weddings and children’s birthday parties, e.g. Kowhai Park, Rotokawau Virginia Lake Reserve and Bason Botanic Gardens.
Charges for the use of public parks are based on the following criteria:
- Community groups (e.g. Carols by Candlelight) can book for free, but may be subject to charges as noted below
- A private event booking (e.g. a wedding or a business Christmas function) is $75 but may be subject to further charges as noted below
- Commercial events are a minimum of $100 for an event and $50 per selling unit per day for each commercial operator
- Independent commercial operators that may be part of another event (e.g. food trucks) will be charged $30.
NB: Fees shown above are intended to be a starting point and may be impacted by other factors such as length of booking, space or reserve booked, any erection of structures, extra services that might be required and the presence of commercial operators. A refundable bond may be charged depending on potential for the event to cause damage to the grounds. A refundable key deposit of $50 may apply to bookings.
These fees do not apply to seasonal licenses for sports groups, or for organised sporting activities.
