Restricted fire season – Whanganui coast and urban area

The Manawatū-Whanganui Coastal Zone has moved to a restricted fire season until further notice.
A restricted fire season means anyone who wants to light an outdoor fire must apply for a fire permit authorised by Fire and Emergency.

Apply for rates remission

For the 2024/25 financial year (starting in July 2024) the council is continuing its rates remission (reduction) that was put in place for the 2023/24 year to assist households affected by a significant increase in rates as a result of the 2022 property revaluations.

Handley Park

Handley Park is situated on the corner of Handley Street, Anson Street and Carlton Avenue in Gonville. It offers a large flat open space and a fenced playground with swings, slides and a climbing frame.

There is a picnic table and several large trees for shade at the Handley Street end of the park.

The park is named after John Handley, the first chairman of the Whanganui Town Board from 1862 until 1864.
