Prohibited fire season – Whanganui coast and urban area

The Manawatū-Whanganui Coastal Zone has moved to a prohibited fire season from 21 February, until further notice due to warm temperatures, drying winds and a lack of rainfall.
A prohibited fire season means no open-air fires are allowed and all fire permits are suspended.

Apply for rates remission

For the 2024/25 financial year (starting in July 2024) the council is continuing its rates remission (reduction) that was put in place for the 2023/24 year to assist households affected by a significant increase in rates as a result of the 2022 property revaluations.
