Whanganui District Council is seeking feedback on how names for roads in our district are decided and whether or not these should be applied to parks, reserves and open spaces.
The Road Naming and Numbering Policy provides a consistent and comprehensive approach to the naming and numbering of roads. The current criteria for naming roads include the following characteristics:
- Traditional or appropriate Māori name
- Historical person or event
- Significant geographical or topographical features
- Personal name for special service.
This policy is currently being reviewed and your feedback and views are appreciated. Your feedback will help inform the policy, which will be formally consulted on later this year.
A copy of the current Road Naming and Numbering Policy is available here.
The survey closes at 12 noon on Tuesday, 1 August 2023.
