Snow has covered access tracks cut through hill country roads in the Wanganui District, with a number of roads now closed for safety reasons.
Hill country roads that were already extremely dangerous, with limited access tracks cut through slips, have been covered in up to 300mm of snow. This means the tracks are no longer visible.
As a result, Kauarapaoa Road, Junction Road, Watershed Road and Ahu Ahu Valley Road are now closed to all traffic. Roading crews have been withdrawn from these areas.
Motorists must keep off these roads as emergency services and rescue vehicles are also unable to get through.
