For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

Work is progressing well on clearing Wanganui District roads following the June 2015 severe weather event.
No issues were reported over the past weekend despite spells of rain and wind. Ahu Ahu Valley Road and Watershed Road are now restored to 2WD access. A number of roads that were “2WD with extreme caution” now have normal access including Te Rimu Road, Longacre Road and Junction Road.

All other roads in the district are open and available to 2WD, cars etc. Truck and trailer contractors are advised to phone the Wanganui Alliance for an update on the condition of rural roads. All rural roads remain slippery with any significant rain.
