Restricted fire season – Whanganui coast and urban area

The Manawatū-Whanganui Coastal Zone has moved to a restricted fire season until further notice.
A restricted fire season means anyone who wants to light an outdoor fire must apply for a fire permit authorised by Fire and Emergency.

Apply for rates remission

For the 2024/25 financial year (starting in July 2024) the council is continuing its rates remission (reduction) that was put in place for the 2023/24 year to assist households affected by a significant increase in rates as a result of the 2022 property revaluations.

Horizons emergency management staff on duty overnight

Civil Defence advice for Whanganui

Due to this morning’s large earthquakes off the Kermadec Islands, strong and unusual currents and unpredictable surges near the shore are expected for coastal areas including Whanganui.

As a precautionary measure our Civil Defence team has put up warning signs at local beaches and closed the gates at Kai Iwi.
