Part of Somme Parade closed to all through-traffic from 2-19 July

Somme Parade from Barrack Street to Kaikokopu Road will temporarily close to all through-traffic from 7.00am on Tuesday, 2 July until 5.00pm on Friday, 19 July 2024 to allow for a stormwater pipe repair outside 131 and 138 Somme Parade by Whanganui District Council contractors.

A detour using Seddon Street for traffic heading in both directions will operate during the work period.

Full detour information

  • All vehicles using Somme Parade for travel will be required to detour into Barrack Street, Seddon Street and Kaikokopu Road or vice versa to bypass the closure.
  • Residents between 92 Somme Parade and 122 Somme Parade will be required to access their properties from London Street via Russell Street, or Spier Street.
  • Road closure and detour signage will be displayed prior and at the intersection of Somme Parade and Barrack Street and Somme Parade and Kaikokopu Road.
  • Access to the Aramoho Shopping Centre and the shops in front on Somme Parade will still be available from upper Somme Parade and Kaikokopu Road.
