Proposed representation arrangements for 2025 local elections

Whanganui District Council is reviewing its representation arrangements and has resolved the following proposal apply to the council and its community board for local elections to be held on 11 October 2025.

It is proposed the council comprise 12 members elected from two (2) wards, and the mayor.

The two wards reflect the following communities of interest:

  • Whanganui General Ward –

    comprising the whole of the Whanganui District area

  • Whanganui Māori Ward –

    comprising the whole of the Whanganui District area

Community board representation

It is proposed the following community board be elected:

Whanganui Rural Community Board – comprising the rural areas of the Whanganui District area outside of the Whanganui urban area and split into three subdivisions – Kaitoke, Kai Iwi, and Whanganui.
