Call for feedback on the council's road naming policy

Whanganui District Council's Road Naming and Numbering survey is open until 1 August

Whanganui District Council is seeking feedback on how road names in our district are decided and whether the current council policy should also be applied to parks, reserves and open spaces. The community is able to give their feedback via an online survey.

The current Road Naming and Numbering Policy is designed to provide a consistent and comprehensive approach to the naming and numbering of roads while meeting legislative and emergency service requirements.

The council’s principal policy planner, Justin Walters, says, “The review is looking at principles of how we name both new and existing roads as well as whether or not these principles should apply to the naming of parks and similar areas.

“This preliminary survey, as part of a full policy review later this year, will give our district councillors and relevant council staff an indication of how various aspects of the policy are viewed by the community – such as the role for the road naming panel – and whether any substantive policy changes are needed,” Justin Walters says.

All information including the survey link is available here. Please note your personal details will not be retained by the council for any future use.

The Road Naming and Numbering survey closes at 12 noon on Tuesday, 1 August 2023.
