Durie Hill elevator receiving specialist attention

Work is continuing to get the Durie Hill elevator back up and running again, after electrical issues led to its closure in July.

Project manager, Lynda Hocquard, says the 102-year-old elevator has experienced issues with its DC motor, as some of the original copper coils failed. This requires specialist attention from experts in Auckland.

“Because of its age, the Durie Hill elevator is one of a kind. We can’t just purchase off the shelf parts – they have to be repaired and replaced individually.”

“We’re also at the mercy of the supply chain which has been under pressure this year due to COVID-19,” Lynda Hocquard says.

The elevator may be out of action for up to eight weeks. Tranzit will continue to provide Durie Hill residents with a shuttle in the meantime.
