Durie Hill elevator ready to reopen
Published on 20 October 2021
The Durie Hill elevator is set to reopen tomorrow, Thursday, 21 October 2021.
The 102-year-old elevator was closed in July after the original copper coils in its DC motor failed. The motor had to be sent to Auckland for specialist repairs.
Lockdown measures under a series of COVID-19 alert levels have also compounded the delay in the motor’s return.
The DC motor was recently returned to Whanganui and testing took place today (Wednesday).
The elevator will be operating its usual hours, 8.00am–6.00pm, Monday to Friday, and 10.00am–5.00pm, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
