Whanganui River and Weather Update 8 March 2018 5.45 pm
The Whanganui River has peaked at Pipiriki and is now slowly dropping - it was measured at 9.63m at 5pm.
High tide here has passed, and the river will drop slowly but remain high and fast, with lots of debris for some time.
Water barriers have been installed across low points at Kowhai Park as a precautionary measure, but there is currently no risk to ANZAC Parade or other residential areas. There are no weather watches or warnings in place - but we could get some rain overnight.
Always be prepared and make sure your emergency supplies and plans are in place.
If there are any significant developments overnight we will update you on the Whanganui District Council facebook page and broadcast information on Brian FM (91.2 fm). We also send information to our local media contacts and post to the Civil Defence Manawatu Wanganui facebook page.
