Work is progressing well on clearing Wanganui District roads following the June 2015 severe weather event.
No issues were reported over the past weekend despite spells of rain and wind. Ahu Ahu Valley Road and Watershed Road are now restored to 2WD access. A number of roads that were “2WD with extreme caution” now have normal access including Te Rimu Road, Longacre Road and Junction Road.
Road closures:
- Whanganui River Road – north of Jerusalem
- Whangaehu Valley Road – closed to heavy trailer thoroughfare at Aranui Station. Access for truck and trailer units from either Mangamahu or Fields Track.
- Burrell Road – closed to heavy traffic
- Kaiwhaiki Road last 1km. Access is expected to be restored this week.
- Mt View Road – uphill section only past no. 49. Can be accessed from Georgetti Road.
2WD, but caution needed due to slippery surface:
- Kauarapaoa Road
- Whanganui River Road – from start to Jerusalem
- Matahiwi Track
- Bruce Road
- Creek Road
- Ahu Ahu Valley Road
- Watershed Road
All other roads in the district are open and available to 2WD, cars etc. Truck and trailer contractors are advised to phone the Wanganui Alliance for an update on the condition of rural roads. All rural roads remain slippery with any significant rain.
