If you are aged 17 or 18 and are doing awesome stuff for the Whanganui community, or know someone who is, Trustpower wants to hear from you.

The Trustpower Youth Spirit Award recognises and celebrates the contributions of future community leaders.

Anyone can enter a young person into the awards, including the young person themselves.

Entries will be judged against how the person contributes to their school, education provider, workplace, or to wider community projects, as well as how they advocate for positive change and demonstrate community spirit.

Winners receive a framed certificate, a trophy and $750 of prize money.

The Youth Spirit Award is part of the Trustpower Community Awards, which recognise volunteers throughout New Zealand.

Whanganui District Youth Council Co-Chair Rhea Colaabavala says the Trustpower Community Awards are a fantastic way to recognise Whanganui’s volunteers and she particularly wants to encourage 17 and 18-year olds to enter themselves or others they know for the Youth Spirit Award.

The Youth Spirit Award is for a young person aged 17 or 18 who is involved in volunteer work in order to help out their community. This person demonstrates true community spirit and helps make a difference to the people of Whanganui. If you know anyone who fits this description and deserves to be celebrated for their efforts please make sure you nominate them!" Miss Colaabavala says.

The Trustpower Community Awards close at 5.00pm Thursday, 31 May 2018.
