Upcoming installation of trial roundabout in Ingestre Street

A trial roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Ingestre-Wicksteed streets during June 2024

Whanganui District Council contractors are preparing to install a temporary roundabout as a trial at the intersection of Ingestre and Wicksteed streets, similar to the modified road layout recently established on the upper part of Guyton Street.

The council’s transportation manager, Damien Wood, says, “We’ve received a lot of favourable feedback on the Guyton Street roundabout from people who regularly travel, work or shop in the vicinity.

“The roundabout has greatly simplified the way this intersection operates from its previous layout, and led to real safety improvements for road users and pedestrians alike by slowing traffic movements in this area.”

Damien Wood says, “To achieve the same results, we’re now going to trial a similar roundabout layout further along Wicksteed Street at the intersection with Ingestre Street, although in this case without any of the raised pedestrian platforms that are a part of the wider Guyton Street configuration.”

The trial layout for the Ingestre-Wicksteed streets roundabout will include new give-way road markings and upgraded give-way sign traffic islands at all four approaches to the roundabout.

Installation of the trial roundabout is scheduled to start in June and take a month to complete.

The trial is being funded by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and Whanganui District Council, with installation work carried out by the council’s Whanganui Alliance partner, Downer.
