Proposed Trade Waste Bylaw and Proposed Development Contributions Policy 

Whanganui District Council invites submissions on a bylaw and a policy which opened for public consultation on 15 December 2017.  

Proposed Trade Waste Bylaw 

Submissions are invited on Whanganui District Council's Proposed Trade Waste Bylaw 2018.  

Whanganui District Council’s General Manager, Infrastructure, Mark Hughes says, “With a new Wastewater Treatment Plant currently being built, Whanganui District Council needs to have a fair and effective system of control over trade waste entering the system to ensure design performance and discharge consent conditions can be met.” 

Mr Hughes says the proposed bylaw will apply to all trade premises within the Whanganui District where sewage of a non-domestic nature, including tankered waste, is discharged or likely to be discharged to the Council's sewerage system.  

Public consultation on Whanganui District Council's Proposed Trade Waste Bylaw opened on Friday 15 December 2017 and will close on Friday 23 February 2018 

Proposed Development Contributions Policy 

Public consultation for Whanganui District Council’s proposed Development Contributions Policy opened on Friday 15 December 2017 and will close on 5 February 2018. 

Damien Wood, Development Engineer for Whanganui District Council says the Council anticipates urban expansion and growth in specific areas of Whanganui and new developments will require significant investment in infrastructure.  

“We are inviting views on a proposed policy which will provide the Council with a clear framework for recovering contributions from developers to help meet the costs of capital expenditure necessary to service growth.”  

The introduction of a development contributions policy is intended to: 

  • assist the Council with achieving greater accuracy in its planning for growth 
  • provide clarity and certainty for developers and  
  • ensure contributions are fair, equitable and proportionate.
