This policy states Whanganui District Council's commitment to delivering business friendly services to facilitate economic growth and in particularly a growth in jobs. It also sets the overaching direction and expectations to guide Council staff when engaging with businesses.

The council provides leases (of land and/or buildings) to a wide range of groups undertaking a wide range of activities. This policy addresses the associated issues. There is also an application form for subsidies on leases of the council land and/or buildings.

This policy seeks to ensure buildings in our district are safe, sanitary and inoffensive so that people can use them without endangering their health or safety.

The council expects developers to make a fair contribution towards the cost of the infrastructure required to support this growth. This will help pay for new roads, pathways, pipes and parks.

We want to keep rates as low as possible, so contributions (fees payable to the council) from developers are required to help meet these costs.

This policy adopts a wellbeing approach to positively managing dogs within the district. The focus of the approach is to prioritise safe interactions between dogs and people and increase dog owners’ capabilities to foster the positive aspects of dog ownership and reduce nuisance.

This policy is implemented through the Dog Control Bylaw 2021.
